Picked Last is a photographic exploration of how our flaws are intrinsically our strengths.

Billions of dollars are spent each year on making us feel ugly. Advertising campaigns that point at our differences and make us believe they are flaws. A daily reminder that we don’t reach their impossible standards and that we are not good enough.

Picked Last is my little project that proves our differences are indeed our strengths. That every wrinkle, scar, bump and mark tells a story that is undeniably you and that makes you strong and beautiful.

Still under construction, the Picked Last project naturally developed from the conversational dances we had as each of these portraits were made. If you have a story you’d like to share, please get in touch. I’d love you to be a part of my project.

First exhibited as a small part in ‘Ravel’ at The Wolfhound Gallery in Fitzroy, these works set the footings for what will become a complete hand and face portrait series presented in book form.

Ravel is a joint exhibition that runs for 2 weeks from July 8th through to July 24th, 2022. You can see all of the works in the Wolfhound Gallery, upstairs at 386 Brunswick St, Fitzroy.

Artists include; Daniel A’Vard, Rory Daniel, Gorak, Anne McCallum, Andrew Wurster

“I would highly recommend Steve to anyone searching for a true professional with an artistic eye to create some of the most beautiful images. I was drawn to Steve's photography long before our session and I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome.”

“Steve had both his own visions of the shoot and worked with my ideas which resulted in a comfortable and natural session. The time flew by and before I knew it there were all these great photos showing faces and looks that I make all the time but have never really seen for myself. Very illuminating!!”
